Mythology

If there is one classic, British version of Western mythology, it is Bullfinch's Mythology. Though it is often anachronistic, this volume is a treasure trove for the general reader who wishes to get a general sense of the material from which British literature drew many of its references and to which professors of English still refer. Included are Greek Mythology, the Arthurian Legends, Charlemagne, Beowulf, Cuchulain, Robin Hood, and the Mabinogeon (Welsh romances). Some readers may find the language a bit antique and overeducated, but it is not too difficult to understand. I reccommend that every student of mythology or British literature in general have a copy of this wonderful collection for her private library, as it is quite useful for referencing old stories and for revealing the biases and perspectives of scholars in the mid-1800s.
